Memorable moments were made for both the students of Covenant University Secondary School, and the members of the academic outreach team.
The volunteers, in collaboration with Covenant University, visited the expectant students, particularly to target the soon to be graduating set. In light of this, sharing the initiative with Project One Million Souls, we mobilized ourselves to show the students just how much we care.
In the short frame of time we were given, different students from different disciplines gave their all to make sure that, what they had to share in from of knowledge, did not pass these hungry minds. Tips, advice and all forms of experiences, both savory and unsavory, were shared with the children; not just as a pass time, but to give the choices they were going to make in the not too distant future, a more streamlined set of options.
Of course, the spirited individuals had questions, and needed some university “myths” debunked for them. We saw it as our responsibility, to give as much as we can to the student environment. To us, this a way of building the next generation of driven change makers, and we had fun doing it, all the way.
We went there with the aim of making an impact, and with or without the much we had to give, it was an opportunity we do not take for granted.
As with all things we strive to achieve, this outreach was done in love, through the mercy of God. God willing, with your help, we can do a whole lot more. Stay Driven
One of the primary focuses of the outreach was to share the gospel message with the children. The team taught them about Jesus and how He lives in each of them. As a result, 40 children accepted Jesus as their savior, and two even spoke in tongues. In addition to the gospel message, the children learned important life skills, such as self-esteem, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
The outreach would not have been successful without the support of community partners and leaders. Donate Drive engaged with community leaders, including the community matriarch, Mrs. Lola, and the Lagos Neighborhood Security Corps. These relationships were essential in helping the team reach more children and families and make a greater impact in the community.
Through fundraising efforts, Donate Drive raised N116,522, surpassing their initial goal of N100,000. The funds were used to provide provisions, stationeries, books, bibles and other items to the children and their families.
Overall, Love Outreach Oshodi was a successful and fulfilling program, impacting the lives of children and families in the community. Donate Drive is grateful for the support and contributions of volunteers, donors, and partners, and looks forward to the continued holistic development of the children and families they were able to serve. The organization remains committed to maximizing the impact of their programs and ensuring that funds are used in the most effective and responsible way possible.
